Annalisa Camilli reports from Florence for the Associated Press, as the Mayor of Florence, Matteo Renzi, and representatives from National Geographic and UC San Diego's CISA3 outlined the findings of endoscopic surveys in search of a lost da Vinci mural.
The newspaper covering northern San Diego County published the AP story covering a press conference in Florence where UCSD professor Maurizio Seracini divulged initial results of endoscopic testing which detected paint inside a wall of the Palazzo Vecchio -- which Seracini believes is evidence that the lost Leonardo da Vinci mural has been hidden behind the current wall for nearly 500 years.
The daily online news service about 'people and ideas behind the headlines' notes that 'A 507-year-old painting by the Renaissance master could have been found hiding behind a much larger mural.'
The leading Irish broadcast network notes that 'art detectives believe they have found traces of a Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece... that has not been seen in over four centuries.'
The Genoa-based newspaper reports that scientists led by CISA3's Maurizio Seracini are moving closer to confirming the existence of what may have been the Leonardo da Vinci mural, The Battle of Anghiari, behind another mural in the Palazzo Vecchio.
The leading Italian newspaper reports on results announced by CISA3 director Maurizio Seracini, on the discovery of the original Medusa by Caravaggio.

Tom Neill reports on the Battle of Anghiari project in National Geographic online's Explorers Journal, focusing on the work of CISA3 director Maurizio Seracini, who is also a National Geographic Fellow.
In her online blog Cocktail Party Physics, Jennifer Ouellette recounts several efforts to use X-rays and other technologies to improve our understanding of art, including the Battle of Anghiari. She notes that UCSD, led by CISA3 founding director Maurizio Seracini, has been searching for the lost Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece for over 30 years.
The Florence newspaper reports on the latest twist in the saga to uncover a long-lost Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece in the Palazzo Vecchio. Chief project leader Maurizio Seracini of Calit2/CISA3 has reservations about using an endoscopic camera instead of the non-invasive tools he has espoused until now.
CISA3 and IGERT research scientist Albert Yu-Min Lin was among the speakers at the Marconi Society Symposium at Calit2, in a session moderated by Calit2 division director Ramesh Rao, featuring other speakers including Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs.
Rossella Lorenzi reports on the effort to create a new type of camera that could create an images of a Leonardo da Vinci mural hidden behind a brick wall in Florence's Palazzo Vecchio.
Mike Lee reports on three San Diegans to be honored by the Explorers Club in October, including CISA3/IGERT researchers Tom Levy (professor of archaeology at UCSD) and Albert Lin (research scientist at Calit2).
In the NYTimes LENS blog (on photography, video and visual journalism), Kerri MacDonald reports on freelance photographer David Yoder's involvement in the CISA3/National Geographic search for a Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece -- and a way to photograph the mural (if it exists), even though it is not visible to the naked eye.
